From start to finish, TPS completes communication network infrastructure

Principal contractor, Agora Solutions, were appointed to install the communications network equipment at all venues.
The company approached TPS to provide resource for the required installation works.
Agora Solutions has over 30 years experience in deploying IT solutions for some of the biggest names in the retail and hospitality industries. Partnering with the world leading IT companies and EPOS providers, the company prides itself on using the technology that matches each individual organisation’s business operations and, most importantly, the people who use it.
The schedule of works for the Commonwealth Games included the installation of the communications network across two venues; the Sandwell Aquatics Centre and Smithfield venue, the provision of technical support for both sites throughout the duration of the event and decommissioning of all equipment post Games. Due to the strict timelines involved, all installation works had to be completed within a period of 9 days.
TPS installed a mixture of temporary and permanent fibre optic cabling (for both indoor and outdoor purposes), with runs ranging from 200m to 2km. The company also installed varying lengths of CAT6 cables to a maximum length of 90m. In addition, multiple pieces of LAN equipment were installed into the Technology Equipment Room, consisting of core switches, patch panels, cable management and UPS with battery. Cabinets were then positioned by TPS at the designated locations, with the LAN equipment and UPS ‘racked and stacked’ within the cabinets. Cross-Connect Frames (CCF’s), AP’s, mounting brackets and IP Desk Phones were also installed with all works being tested and commissioned upon completion. The TPS team of highly-skilled engineers completed the entire schedule of works to strict timescales, providing a seamless integration of network communications equipment into the overall event infrastructure.
The project required precision planning to ensure the efficient deployment of our teams and subsequent timely delivery. We are incredibly proud of what was accomplished and it was a pleasure to work with such a great team of people.
